I am under audit for 2018 and needed to reinstall TurboTax 2018 (CD) on a new computer. I am able to install and download 3 of the states I filed under but am not able to install the "free" state (NY) on my new computer because TurboTax will not download that state. Since all the states are not downloaded, I cannot reopen my tax return. When I called customer service, they said that they cannot add a state to my Intuit account older than 3 years (although I am able to download the states that I purchased that are older than 3 years). Is there a way to add that "free" state (NY) so I can open my file?

Sorry .... but even though you could download the state programs you paid for the program cannot be updated any longer so even if you could get the NY download the program will not function properly.
Going forward ... always save a PDF of the return (with and without the worksheets) for future reference when the program is no longer on your computer or available for use.
Very much appreciate the response. For the sake of others that may be trying to do the same thing, what I discovered is that if you copy the tax year's program files (from the ...x86... directory) from the previous computer onto your new computer (after you install the base program on your new computer - to make the relevant registry entries), you can open your tax file on the new computer and then also trace the calculations as you would have been able to as if you were running the old computer. This obviously requires some level of access to either your old computer or someone who filed in the specific states you filed, but I thought it was worth sharing that learning - probably obvious, but wasn't the first thing I thought of.
