Inquiry Regarding Tax Treaty Exemption and Renewal Process (2025)

Good Afternoon,

I want to ask about the tax treaty exemption I signed up for the 2024 calendar year. According to the information I received, the exemption period is from December 7th, 2023, to December 5th, 2025. Does this mean that the exemption is automatically valid for two years, and I do not need to renew it? In my 8233 form, the exemption is noted for the 2024 calendar year. What happens for the 2025 calendar year?

Additionally, since my program will end in May 2025, I will be returning to my home country in 2026. Could you clarify how this might affect my tax status?

Each treaty is unique.  United States Income Tax Treaties lists all the treaties. They have sections so you can see which apply to you and the requirements.
