inherited HH bonds

I have inherited HH bonds with deferred interest. The bonds matured 2 months after my Mom died. Do I report the interest to Mom's final return or to my return?

I am sorry for your loss.

Generally, the interest is considered to be income in respect of a decedent (IRD) and is reported on the return of the person or entity receiving the interest.

The most likely result is that you will report the interest on your individual income tax return, but you should check to ensure that the interest was not reported on your mother's final income tax return or an estate income tax return (if one was filed).
