In progress 2019 return asking for amend reason

I have not yet filed my 2019 taxes. The top bar shows Federal Tax Due (in progress). However, in the Review step, the software is trying to make me enter an answer for "Tell us why you're amending your return"

We do not have access to your tax return or to your TurboTax acount here on  the community board, however, if the top bar is your return is showing in progress, it sounds like you have already filed your return and when you are navigating through TurboTax and trying to add data to it, TurboTax thinks you are trying to amend your return.

You can use our e-file status lookup tool to get your current status.

You can also check your refund status directly through the IRS using these links: Where’s My Refund on IRS.gov or the IRS mobile app, IRS2Go to check your status.

If you filed your return in error, and you have additional data to add, you will need to file an amended return.

In order to file an amended return, make sure that your 2019 return was accepted in TurboTax Online or paper-filed through the mail by the IRS.

To prepare an amended return through TurboTax, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax.
  2. Scroll down to Your tax return & documents (you may need to select Show), select 2019 and then Amend (change) return.
  3. Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
  4. Carefully follow the instructions. Don't worry if your refund changes to $0. This is normal on amended returns.
  5. When finished, we'll give you instructions for printing and mailing your amended return as amendments can't be e-filed.

I definitely have not filed my 2019 return (but have paid for the product already). How can I get technical support on this issue?

A helpful phone agent was able to figure this out by having me manually go to the Delete a Form section and delete the 1040X. Still not sure why the software generated this (I did go to amend my 2018 return, and it seems that incorrectly did something to my 2019 return), but glad there is a solution.
