i'm using TT premier.
i can import account info for our first account but when i try to import the 2nd account TT says the username/password is invalid. We know it is correct.
TT help center told me i needed to enter the 2nd account manually.
This leads me to believe somewhere in the bowels of the TT software, the login info is saved. Can this be right? Has anyone run into this?
thanks
Rob
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
This could depend on the broker. I have multiple accounts at one broker. when I go to import I'm given the option of selecting the forms to import but the forms for both accounts are presented. For other brokers, a taxpayer must first select the account - then import only from that account, log out, go back to Turbotax select import and the broker, and then specify the other account. Others have other methods so you must contact them to see if they can provide guidance. For some brokers, from the threads I've seen, may not provide for import from multiple accounts
thanks for that info.
What i am trying to understand is why TT is saying the login credentials are invalid.
Both mine and my wife's accounts are seperate and not linked in any way by the brokerage firm (Osaic). When i called Osaic they said if i have no issue logging into my account then the issue is with TT.

Does the second account require a security code or a token of some kind? Are you using the browser version? If the screen for entry of the security code does not appear, that could be the issue. Try turning off that level of security if you have the option, do the download, then turn it back on. I am not a TT pro, but have used it for 20+ years.
i'm using the desktop version of TT premier.
The second account has its own username/password. When i go to import documents and select the brokerage firm (Osaic), the TT pop window opens for me to enter username/password. After i do that, it TT comes back with another pop up window saying the user ID is invalid.

On the off-chance that TT is not 'releasing' the first account interaction - try saving your return and closing TT completely. Then, restart TT and resume your return. In the 1099 section, use the download feature entering the credentials for the second account.
I also use the desktop version of TT Premier. My comment about the security code was related to login for the brokerage account, not TT.
yes i understand what you said about the security code. There is no security code needed.
I've tried restarting the TT program - same problem.
I started a new return and got the same error when trying to import it so i'm not sure where the problem is.
Thinking of loading the program on a different laptop and seeing if its same.
If you are using TurboTax Online, try importing using a different browser.
See the following TurboTax Help articles for potential fixes:
the thing is the TT program is not asking for a browser to use.
When i click on add a new investment it brings up the import page where i enter the firm and click on continue. TT then brings up the login window for me to enter my account username/password.
Is this wrong?
thanks
Rob
That has been my experience - select the company, then the popup to enter credentials for the brokerage firm user name and password should display. By any chance, did you try removing the import for the first account and using the login information for the second account? I am just curious if that account will load if done first.
