Has anyone tried calling the ML customer support number on the screen? I also have my PDF but can't connect, but I have commitments and can't call for a couple of days. I was thinking we might need to reset our passwords or something, but I haven't tried.
I called both ML and TT today. Merrill Lynch directed me to TurboTax; they said there was no reason we wouldn’t be able to download our ML broker statement. I did point out that there were multiple posts on TT forum the inability to import data into TT.
I called TT customer service; one possibility they mentioned was trying to download the data on February 15 when 1099B are due. Their reasoning was the possibility that ML doesn’t release all of the various 1099 data until that date.
My ML Tax Reporting file was posted yesterday in my ML account. I tried importing to TT without success. This morning they imported without a hitch, suggesting that the report file must be manipulated by ML software when they do their nightly refreshing of all accounts. Their software extracted all of my tax forms out of the report and let them appear separately to TT for me to select for importing.
Interesting...still not working for me. Called ML today (13 Feb 2025) and they said there was nothing they could do to troubleshoot the issue on their side and said to call TT. Whether it's an issue with ML not having the files appropriately formated to import into TT or another issue...someone on either or both sides should know. Very frustrating!
2/21 Still unable to import from Merrill ??
Nope. You enter your Merrill credentials and nothing. No error message. Merrill says it's a TT problem, TT says it's a Merrill problem.
Didn't work last year, looks like it won't work again this year.
If I have to change one next year, it will be TT.
Merrill also not working with block...??
I was able to import ML data the day after my PDF posted.
Yes...still unable to import data from Merrill...2/22/25. Pretty frustrating having to do this step manually!
same as above - inability to download Merrill's tax forms to TT as of today - beep is experienced as in some other cases - this requires a lot of manual entry to resolve and file taxes using TT accurately
So does anyone know if H&R Block software can download transactions?
UPDATE - after various troubleshooting steps w/TT specialists aimed at accomplishing the normal download from Merrill-Edge... a work around for anyone unable to download 1099-B transactions is manual entry of subtotals ("sales section totals") for "covered" net short-term and long-term gains and/or losses. This should permit accurate reporting of capital gains and losses; however, without entry of details for specific securities and transactions (separately reported to IRS/taxing authorities). TT seems set-up for this approach when entering manually although you may not be aware of it until you select the 1099-B entry form and progress to subsequent input screens. Hope this helps...
Glad you were able to use the Sales Section Totals successfully. The IRS is only really interested in you reporting Gain/Loss, Short Term/Long Term on your tax return. They have copies of your 1099-B's if they have questions about individual transactions.
If using TurboTax Online, you can download a PDF of your 1099-B from your financial institution and attach it to your return.
no luck as today. Any news?
