Im itemizing. I entered local school taxes paid in 2019 that was not on my w2. there was no change to my tax due number. Why?

TurboTax calculates your itemized deductions as you enter them and will switch to itemized deductions if and when your itemized deductions exceed the standard deduction.  Until that point is reached you will not notice any change to the tax due as you enter individual itemized deductions.

The standard deductions for 2019 are.  

• Single - $12,200 add $1,650 if age 65 or older add.  

• Married Filing Separately - $12,200 add $1,300 if age 65 or older. 

• Married Filing Jointly - $24,400 add $1,300 for each spouse age 65 or older.   

• Head of Household - $18,350 add $1,650 if age 65 or older.
