It sounds like it is possible that someone has fraudulently filed a return using yours or your spouse's SSN. This happened to us and I had to contact the IRS and they send us a Personal Protection PIN that must be filed with our return, or it will be rejected. This was on our Federal return, but contacting the state would still apply and I am sure they have some way of dealing with this situation. It has been happening more and more, from what I hear.
