Im confused with this Form 8615. Im not under 18, and i've never had to fill this out before. It is asking me for my parents information. But ive never recieved this form

It says on the form "tax for certain children who have unearned income" But I worked at the end of 2022, so I am confused by this.

Form 8615 (the "kiddie tax") applies to fulltime students, under 24. "I worked at the end of 2022" seems to infer that your were a FT student for parts of 5 calendar months in 2022.  You are not subject to the kiddie tax if more than half your support, for 2022, came from your own earned (working) income.

Use Form 8615PDF to figure the child's tax on unearned income over $2,300 if the child is under age 18, and in certain situations if the child is older (see below). Attach Form 8615 to the child’s tax return if all of the following conditions are met.

  1. The child's unearned income was more than $2,300. Unearned income includes taxable scholarships and taxable portions of 529 distributions
  2. The child meets one of the following age requirements:
    • The child was under age 18 at the end of the tax year,
    • The child was age 18 at the end of the tax year and didn't have earned income that was more than half of the child's support, or
    • The child was a full-time student at least age 19 and under age 24 at the end of the tax year and the child didn't have earned income that was more than half of the child's support.
  3. At least one of the child's parents was alive at the end of the tax year.
  4. The child is required to file a tax return for the tax year.
  5. The child does not file a joint return for the tax year.

Can you clarify something:  Do you have any unearned income?  This could be interest, dividends, investment (stocks, bonds, mutual funds), prizes, etc.  Income not reported on a W-2 or 1099-NEC.
