If I want to claim casualty loss, can I use the free edition or do I have to go with Deluxe?

If it's a personal casualty you will need TurboTax Deluxe or higher to claim a theft and casualty loss. You will be required to itemize deductions (on Schedule A) in order to claim this deduction. 

Note: You can only deduct the portion of the loss that was not reimbursed by insurance.

If it's a business loss then you will need TurboTax Self-Employed.
