There could be several reasons why you might be deemed ineligible despite meeting the general requirements. Here are a few possibilities:
- Your earned income must be between $1 and $31,950
- You must be at least 18 years old or have a child who qualifies. You must have lived in California for more than half of the tax year.
- Filing Status: If you are married or in a registered domestic partnership (RDP) and filing separately, you must meet specific conditions, such as living apart from your spouse/RDP for the last 6 months of the tax year
- You cannot be claimed as a dependent or qualifying child on someone else's tax return
- You need a valid Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) for yourself, your spouse/RDP, and any qualifying children
- You can also use the CalEITC calculator to verify your eligibility
