If I make a payment to the state of Colorado for 2018 taxes and I already owe them for previous year, where does that payment get applied to?

If I make a payment to the state of Colorado for 2018 taxes and I already owe them for previous year, where does that payment get applied to?
Generally, tax payments are applied to the oldest tax balance before being applied to the current year's balance.
