I filed an extension.  Do I finish my return and e-file now or do I finish my return and e-file by the extension deadline?

The whole idea of an extension is to give you more time to prepare your tax return.  You have until October 15 to finish preparing it if you need more time.   Get it e-filed by October 15---or sooner if it  is ready.

Do understand clearly that an extension does not give you extra time to pay your tax due.   An extension gives you extra time to prepare your tax forms and file them.  The extension give you until October 15, 2024.  Estimated tax you owe for 2023 is supposed to be paid by April 15 2024.
