IDNotify - When calling their number, they ask for my social security #

I got an alert from IDNotify about how my social securitiy number was found on the dark web. I called the 888 number -[phone number removed] and they asked for my social security number and zip code. I gave them fake information and apparently they did not verify anything!  What is up with this service!
