It is possible that the Internal Revenue Service assigned you an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) even if you did not request one.
This may happen when the IRS suspects possible identity theft or fraudulent tax activity, your Social Security number was involved in a data breach, or you previously had a tax-related identity theft case.
