ID.ME being forced to use

Got an email from IRS about a notification on my online account.

Went to sign in and the IRS has removed the option to login using your previous credentials, you are now forced to use the ID.ME and setup a new registration.

Can anyone confirm if its mandatory to register with ID.ME in order to access your IRS account?

Yes it is ... the old access ended earlier this year right after tax season.

ID.ME being forced to use

@Critter-3 @Raj1

The Good News about the change of login credential verification using ID.Me is that there are now a vast number of entities who have chosen to use it, so if you create an ID.ME login for yourself, consider also informing ID.ME of any other valid identifying information for yourself.

It is worth it establishing your ID.ME login!

In my case, ID.ME validates:

  • IRS.gov
  • VA.gov  & Veteran
  • Educator
  • First Responder (Paramedic/Firefighter)
  • University Alumnus

I'd be wary of an email.  I received a letter (form 5071C) in the postal mail from?? the IRS regarding ID.me
