We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?

What state are you filing?

I assume you have to file there because you live there, is that right?

Yes sorry. I worked in Florida, live in Alabama.

My reject code of AL40-050 stated my wages in box 1 had 16 had to match, but my W2 did not have any info in boxes 15-20

Yes, you can correct this error by entering the same number as box 1 in box 16 on your W-2 form. This won't change you state tax refund, or balance due, but it'll resolve the e-file error. Here's how to do that in TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
  2. Select Fix my return, then Wages & Income.
  3. To the right of Job (W-2), select Edit/ Add.
  4. Expand the section by selecting the down arrow to the right
  5. Select Edit below the W-2 information.
  6. Select Continue until you get to Now let's update the rest. You can correct box 16 near the bottom of this screen. Enter your box 1 amount in box 16. Enter FL in box 15 and 0 in box 17.
  7. Look for Continue to file. If you don't see it yet, select Review, then Check my Return. If you get an error about the box 15 state ID number and it's blank on your W-2, use the Employer's federal ID number which should be near the employer's name and address.
  8. Keep going until you re-file your state return.
