Sounds like you did indeed end up in a more expensive product. Did you try to get help with lowering your charges before or after you had already paid? It's much easier before paying. It's extremely hard to get TurboTax Support to do anything after one has already paid. Before paying, helpers in this forum could have told you how to remove the Live feature, which would save a considerable amount, and how you could have possibly downgraded from Premium to a lower edition.
If you want to escalate your situation higher at Intuit, you can contact the liaison at the office of the President of Intuit. I don't know if or what they might do, but they need to hear your complaint. Here's the contact form. They usually respond in 1 business day.

For future reference, you also mentioned that you prepare returns for 5 other family members. The desktop software can prepare unlimited number of Federal returns with up to 5 free Federal efiles.
