I want to refile my federal because my dependent fixed their return and it was accepted. State has to be mailed. Will I be penalized for being rejected 2x's by state?

My dependent had federal amended return already accepted but state has to be mailed.

If your dependent made a mistake that blocked you from e-filing and has now amended---sorry---you are still blocked and cannot e-file this year.  The only way you can file your return claiming the dependent is by mail.   Their SSN will block you for months and months.   Print, sign and date your return in ink, and mail it.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
