I purchased 2 copies of turbo tax deluxe for desktop. Can I load both to the same computer?

No.  You cannot install 2 personal TurboTax desktop products on the same computer.  Why would you consider loading 2 copies of Deluxe to the same computer?   What are you trying to accomplish?   We can tell you more once we understand your goal and concerns.

not only can you not load 2 copies of Turbotax for 1040s but you also can't e-file more than 5 returns. This is an IRS restriction, Not TurboTax.

I am doing taxes for 9 people in my family. I knew that I could only e-file 5 returns so that is why I purchased a second license so that I could do the remaining 4 members of my family. I am not a tax professional.

You cannot install two different personal TurboTax desktop programs for the same tax year on the same computer because it can cause conflicts. The software is designed to handle multiple returns (up to five federal) in one installation.

However, you can install TurboTax Business along with one other personal version, such as Premier, or Home & Business.

If you need to prepare more than five federal returns, you must use a different computer, use the online version, or file by mail.  However, keep in mind that the IRS limits individuals to e-filing a maximum of five tax returns per software license, account, or email address. This is done for security and identification purposes.

@Nicole_H Five federal e-files is an IRS limit---not a TurboTax limit.   You cannot get around the IRS limit by purchasing two downloads of the desktop software.   What you are allowed to do is e-file up to five federal returns and their associated state returns, and file the additional family members' returns by mail.

@garyrg Purchasing two licenses is a waste.   You say you want to file returns for yourself and another family member.  That can easily be done with just one license.  Each license allows you to prepare and e-file up to five federal returns and the associated state returns.  You do not need two downloads.   You are allowed to download your software to up to five computers that you own.

Seek a refund for the unnecessary second license.

I purchased Business for my business. I want to keep taxes separate from my personal.  I purchased Premier for my personal taxes.  How can I install both programs on the same computer?

I'll assume you mean the Business Edition and not the "Home and Business" product.  The dedicated Business Edition (for S-corp, C-corp, partnerships, trusts, estates) can exist on the same computer as a personal tax product such as your Premier Edition.   They are installed separately and you should not encounter a conflict.    If you haven't yet downloaded the installation file for each, the FAQ below will tell you how to do it.

I go through this ever year as well with my family. You basically have two options:

1. Install TT on two different computers. I usually buy copy 1, and install it on my laptop, then have my spouse purchase copy 2, and install it on his laptop. We are then able to complete and efile everyone's taxes.
2. You can complete all 9 tax filings using one copy of TT, but you can only e-file 5. Determine who of the 9 you can send via USPS versus e-filing, then mail those and e-file the others.

you are to buy pro series if you are doing more then 5 returns.

We have license codes because people took advantage of Turbo Tax desktops, yes they are a business for profit, and possibly doing away with the download version due to this, then we will only have the online version

If we are completing returns for family members at no charge, then this is not a business. I’ve tried using TT online and it’s not worth my time, so if they discontinue the desktop version then I’ll go to a competitor that still has desktop or a better online experience
