I need to print pre-amended return

I completed my return and am owed a refund. I asked that the refund be sent electronically, and I will mail the return. Then, I saw an error. TurboTax said my return was "filed," so I made an amendment. The amended return says I owe money, but I do "owe" less than the original refund would be. Should I mail the original (incorrect) return, wait for the refund to hit my bank, then mail amendment with the amount I was overpaid?

Did you e-file the tax return and if so was it accepted by the IRS?

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

If it was accepted by the IRS, Do Not Amend the tax return until you have received the federal tax refund or the taxes owed and paid have been processed by the IRS.

If you started the amend process, delete the amended tax return.  Click on Cancel Amend on the left side of the online program screen.

If you have not yet filed the original return, you do not "amend" it.  Rather, you just make edits.  I strongly encourage you to efile, since returns filed by mail take 6 months or more to process.

You do not want to go near "Amend " if you had not yet  filed, that was a mistake.

(the way TurboTax is set up, this is a common error)

You have to unwind the Amending by deleting form 1040-X.

Then you have to change your filing type from "Mail" to E-File.
