When you enter your capital asset sales or exchanges in TurboTax, the software will go ahead and automatically generate Form 8949 and transfer the info to Schedule D.
NOTE: You will need to be in at least Turbotax Premier for Schedule D, which it looks like you already are. Deluxe and lower versions do not support Schedule D.
So if you need to enter capital assets/exchanges, use these steps to jump to that portion of the interview.
- Log into your return, click orange Take me to my return button
- Type capital assets in the Search box in the top right
- Click jump to capital assets and this will take you right to that section.
- Choose Yes on the screen that says Did you sell any investments in 2016? and follow the prompts. Once you enter all details, the Form 8949 will be generated
