I need an extension on filing my taxes as i am trying to obtain a ssn for one of my dependents. i know its too late but what should i do

It is too late to file an extension.  Just file your return as soon as you can.  You can efile until mid October.  If you are getting a refund there is no penalty.  Any tax due was due by April 15.  If you pay late the IRS might send you a bill for some interest.
