I just completed my e-file but I noticed after the fact it hadn't asked for my bank information so if I didn't enter it where will it go?

Once your return has been accepted (or mailed), it's too late to add your bank account for direct deposit. If you didn't elect or see this option while preparing your return, the government will issue you a refund check via mail.

If your return hasn't already posted to the IRS's system, you can ask them to change your refund option to direct deposit. You may call them toll-free at 1-800-829-1040, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

However, if your return gets rejected you can update this information in TurboTax, by completing the following steps:

  • Sign in to TurboTax account
  • Click on Take me to my return button
  • Click on the File tab and go through the screens, to update your direct deposit information. (See image below)
