I have now found a THIRD area of my return where TurboTax hs made a mistake. If I were paying less attention, these errors would so far have cost me about $4,750. 2 errors have to due with uploading tax docs to TurboTax, one is a 1099-DIV and one is a 1099-T. In all cases, the problem appears when I get to Federal and State REVIEW. I suddenly get flagged to correct a couple mistakes, and I am prompted to enter amounts from the 1099s that already show in the actual Step by Step data entry process. So I did this first time and my taxes jumped by about $260, which made no sense. In reviewing, now TurboTax had my Merrill 1099-DIV TWICE under income. Exact same forms, control numbers, and amounts. Just Doubled.
In case #2, the 1099-T was again uploaded correctly at the outset, and upon review I was flagged that Box 1 was Zero. This is the amount of tuition billed. Suspicious, I clicked out of this to review manually and my Fed Tax jumped by $2,500 +/- and state tax jumped by $2,132.
In case #3, for my full-time student daughter, I could not e-file because of a glitch insdide TurboTax with the NY state adjustments forms. Customer Service was able to help me solve it after over an hour on the phone, and she acknowledged this appeared to be a TT bug.
This is all distiurbuing to me, I've been using TurboTax forever - at least back to 1997. I have never been so tentative about my returns results. I Also learned today that Turbo Tax Online has no option to manually review each form - Step By Step is the only option. This sucks. I am not trusting TurboTax at this point on anything, because amouts due still look high even after correcting these known errors. What else is wrong inside TT? Without forms access, there's no way to know.
I have 5+ hours in this year, and I am faced with do I ditch it and start anew? Do I buy the desktop version to access forms view? Am I alone in my concern about this year's product? This is probably my last year trusting Intuit, but I still don't want to F this one all up.
