You cannot enter a 1099Misc or self-employment income when you are using the Free Edition.  If you qualify, there is another free software program available from TurboTax which will allow you to enter self-employment income.

Try Free File:

You qualify if your income was $34,000 or less, or $66,000 or less if active duty military, or if you qualify for Earned Income Credit

That depends.  If you have self-employment income the requirement to file is if you earned at least $400.  If you have a W-2, then you might want to file to get a tax refund of tax withheld.  Which kind of income did you receive?

I got Social Security income and close to $2000 from a month of work. Thanks

If tax was withheld for the month of work, file so you can get a refund.  If it was self-employment income you are required to file.  See below.

It was NOT self employment

Again--if tax was withheld from W-2 income, then file a tax return if you want a refund.
