I filed taxes late last year and IRS accepted them in late Jan2024 now wont accept my tax papers for 2023 what do I do

I am getting an error message stating that my SSN has already been submitted for taxes this year. But it was a late filing for 2023. So I didn't file taxes last year until December 2023 and they wouldn't accept it until Jan 2024. Now I trying to file my taxes for this year and they are getting rejected.

Oh no!  You have a problem.  Online for 2022 closed in Oct.   In December the online version was only for 2023.  So you thought you were filing a 2022 return but you really filed it on the 2023 forms.   You need to amend it to be for 2023 by changing it all to be your real 2023 info.  THEN you still need to do a 2022 return.

How to Amend the 2023 return you entered your 2022 in......

THEN TO DO 2022

You have to buy the Desktop download here

You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.

If you have a simple return and want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand. Here are some basic forms.....

Here is the 2022 1040 return

or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors,

Don’t forget your state. And you will have to print and mail your returns. So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them. You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.
