I filed FREE previous years with both a w-2 AND a 1099 NEC. Why am I being asked to pay $59.00 this year to file the same?

I worked as self employed & for employer & always file free.

Sorry---it is not possible to use the Free Edition on this site if you have self-employment income on a 1099NEC.  You either need to upgrade to online Self-Employed or use any version of the CD/download if you have self-employment income.

Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site

TurboTax Free Edition is free as long as it is a simple return that files a 1040 with no additional schedules or upgrades. Please see Why am I being charged for TurboTax Free Edition? for more information.
