If you are seeing a Windows error code 1603 or similar, the following may help:

Intuit had the same problem last year with TurboTax 2016 (or was it Quicken 2017; maybe both) and it's surprising that they didn't fix this in TurboTax 2017.  The installer is checking what version of .NET Framework is installed.  For many users, particularly those with a current version of Windows 10, the system reports that .NET Framework version 4.7.XXXX is installed.  The installer is looking for version 4.6.XXXX (perhaps last year it was version 4.5.2) and doesn't understand that version 4.7 is a valid version so you get the 1603 error (it may have been error 1602 last year).  All the blather in the various "helpful answers" is just that.  What you need to do until Intuit patches the installer is edit the Windows Registry so that the system will report that .NET Framework version 4.6.2 is installed.  The TurboTax installer is then happy and will proceed to a successful installation.  Here is a link to a page that tells you how to make the necessary Registry edits:

https://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/74866-quicken-2017-turbotax-2016-win10-ver-15007-registry-ch...

Although the web page references TurboTax 2016, the same registry edits will fix the problem with TurboTax 2017.  Note that you will have to edit the Permissions on the registry keys you will be editing.  As always, back up the registry keys being edited beforehand.

Good luck.

IF not that.....Here's what other people have done  (win 8 compatibility mode might help you):

htharris:  I finally solved my problem by installing under Win 8 compatibility mode.  Thanks to those who suggested this route.  I should note that I use AVAST and I don't believe the problem was related to it.  That is, I disabled AVAST for one of my many aborted early attempts at installing and it made no difference.

rtpnpk:  Same issue. A new, modern software product should NEVER require user to revert to "compatibility mode". I returned the software to Amazon for a refund

richj:  .............. in my instance, my anti virus program (AVAST Free) was stopping the install.  I have to disable it with task manager in the services tab by stopping the avast service.  Then the install proceeded fine.  (Remember to restart your antivirus after the install, it is important.)

waltersdk:  tried loading on main computer and back-up computer...both Windows 10 with AVG.  One loaded and other failed.  Turning off antivirus on failed computer fixed problem.

bmw:  I turned off my PCMatic and it installed running as an administrator.  Every year, it is something else that makes TT a very difficult install.  It is like breaking into a safe trying different combinations.  The TT help desk was outstanding but had no clue as to what the problem was.  Your post gave me the notion about the virus protection.  Thank you and Merry Christmas

SillyOne:  I have similar issues with Windows 10. I discovered that when I turned off all of Norton Antivirus, including internet monitoring it installed great. Thought this may help.

uspswilm1:   In my case, Norton Antivirus did not block installation, but Super Shield in PCMatic did.  When I disabled Super Shield, TT 2017 Premier installed as expected.

willajabir:  I have similar issues with Windows 10. I discovered that when I turned off all of Norton Antivirus, including internet monitoring it installed great. Thought this may help.

bacassella:  I gave up & contacted customer support. Spent 2 hrs on phone, & they had me run .Net Framework Repair Tool(again), then System File Checker (again), then they downloaded software(again), & finally it
somehow installed.  Still not sure what exactly they did.

judigriffin: I am running Win 10 Home, but this fix (Win8 compatiblility) worked for me.  Thanks for your help!!
