I am working on submitting for the student loan credit for the MN. We both qualify and looks to be system issue. Is anyone else having the same issue?

When i try to submit for myself the Primary filer it give me an additional box to fill in and stated i qualify. When i only say my wife paid student loans it does not give the additional box and states that she qualifies, however when i select that both of us made payments it still only give me the box to type in total student loans left and does not give her the option. Is this a glitch in the system?

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the  directions below:”

TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign into your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” *
  3. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  4. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then,Send Tax File to Agent”)

After reviewing your sanitized return, I see that only one of you qualified for the Minnesota Student Loan Credit.  The calculations are shown on Form M1SLC.

Your total income was split as 35% for the Taxpayer, and 65% for Spouse, so in the following calculations on Lines 5-14, only the TP was eligible for the credit.

A $500 credit then shows on Schedule M1C, Line 9.

This transfers over to your Form M1, Line 16 (the $500 is combined with another credit of $336 for the Marriage Credit, for a total of $836 on this line).

This reduced your tax by that amount.

Thanks for letting us take a look at this.
