Did you prepare both a Federal return and a State return?

If you are using Self-Employed Edition, the Federal return preparation fee is 119.99, and the State return preparation fee is 39.99.   That would total 159.98.    If you choose to pay those fees out of the Federal refund, there is an additional 39.99 service fee (44.99 for California filers.)

If you did not prepare a state return, then the 159.98 would be the 119.99 for the Federal return plus the 39.99 service fee to pay out of the Federal refund.

If you haven't filed yet, you can remove that option to pay out of the refund, then pay the fees upfront with credit/debit card or a prepaid card you can buy in a store.   That will avoid the extra 39.99 service fee.  Here's how to remove it and pay upfront if you haven't filed yet:

California filers (where that refund processing option is part of "Premium Services.")
