If you have the 2023 tax data file from the old PC loaded on the new PC, has a file extension of .tax2023, with the 2024 program you need to start a new 2024 tax return. The 2024 program should then list the 2023 tax data files it has found for you to transfer. If your 2023 tax data file is not listed then browse to the location where you copied the file.
When I downloaded Turbotax Business on the new PC, last year's 2023 1041 was already downloaded on the PC and located in C:\users\riHil\onedrive\documents\turbotax as a ".tax2023" document. The 2023 file did not populate when I opened a new 2024 business tax return, contrary to what happened when I opened a new 1040 tax file with Turbotax Premier. When I opened my 2024 1040, I got a message that previous Turbotax data was available and it lists the 2023 data when i opened income in Turbotax Premier. Not the case with Turbotax Business which also gave me the message that previous business data was noted.
I then tried "Find a tax file" (browsing) when I opened the "file" menu in Turbotax Business, I found the file in File explorer (Win 11 professional) and assumed it would upload to a new 2024 document which opened when I used "Find a tax file", but despite opening a new 2024 tax file, it did not populate like it did in premier (even without using a "Find a tax file). It seems Turbotax Business behaves differently than Turbotax Premier. Any suggestions and am I misinterpreting when you say browse for a 2023 return.
