A wife is not a dependent, you are either married or divorced. If you are married, you must file either MFJ or MFS. Take the IRS Filing Status quiz.

Your child may be your dependent, depending on the agreements between you and your wife along with any court documents. If you are filing MFJ, the child would be included.
