With all due respect, did you even read what I wrote?!? As I mentioned, those are exactly the steps I followed (including de-encrypting the .tax2023 file)...that fails as described.
As I've progressed in my attempt to use the online tool, I've noticed flakey behavior and broken things all over the place. I believe Online TurboTax is DEFINITELY NOT READY FOR USE. So, I think this is just one example of that -- ie, either a bug or something that hasn't been implemented yet. But, I hope I'm wrong and someone can show me how to get this to work....
Ok...looks like there is glitch on the screen for transferring. Once you have selected the tax data file you want to transfer, the screen should give you a Transfer button, but it does not.
Workaround -
With the name of the tax data fie shown in the Choose File box, click on one of the Help links, such as Why can't I find my 2023 return? This will open up another browser window, just close the new window. Back on Transfer Return window there will now be a Transfer Return button
