Your son will file and report form 1099-NEC on his own return. He need to check the box that someone else will claim him as a dependent.
The 1099-NEC form specifically reports Nonemployee Compensation.
To enter your 1099-NEC in TurboTax:
When you’re done, we’ll ask you a few questions and help you through entering any expenses you may have so that you can reduce your taxable income.
which is the correct tax product for the dependent son to use when the only forms he has is 1099G (Unemployment) and 1099-NEC (Instacart)? He also is using these proceeds to pay his college tuition. Which product/forms should he use? thanks.
1099-NEC requires TurboTax Self-Employed (or desktop Home & Business) - this program will allow your son to deduct the expenses of his Instacart income (mileage, tolls, etc.) and will also handle 1099-G income.
Enter "1099-nec" in the search window and select "jump to 1099-nec" from the search results. This is "self-employment income".
