How much does it cost to efile?

I was told it would be about $30 total to file my Federal and CA state taxes but I checked my bank account and I was charged $64 and change. Is this correct?

Yes it could be.  If you selected the option to have the state fee 29.99 deducted from your federal refund there is an EXTRA 34.99 Refund Processing Service charge for a total of 64.98.  Which you could have avoided by paying the fee with a credit card.  You had to agree to the extra charge on 2 screens before filing.

I paid with my credit card! So I must have missed "unclicking" an agree section. Is there a way to change this? I specifically went in and made sure I didn't have to pay that extra fee but it still showed up as charged.

Did your credit card get charged?  Go back and check the fees.

How to find your fees…
Log in to your return
Click on My Account at the top, then on Tools
Click on My Fees
A window will pop up that shows the fees

If you can't get all the options to show up under My Account you need to open your return.  You might have to select Add A State to get back into your return.

It looks like my debit card was charged, NOT credit card - does that make a difference?
