How does the govt shutdown affect our taxes

There may be small delays in processing tax returns.  Per this announcement - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-confirms-tax-filing-season-to-begin-january-28 the IRS has indicated that they will start processing tax returns on January 28.  Obtaining telephone or written assistance may be a problem during the shutdown.
