How do I transfer 2017 TT data from old computer to new computer with 2018 TT?

Put the 2017 .tax2017 data file onto a USB drive, thumb drive or some other external device.  Once copied there, move the external drive onto your new computer, open the folder and move the 2017 file into a folder on your new computer.  Open turboTax and browse to the folder you just created with the .tax2017 file from last years return.

If your tax file is on the OLD computer only YOU can move it to the new computer ... did you not move all your old files to the new computer yet ?   If not find someone who can help you get the new computer updated with all your old information.

you are posting on someone else's thread .... what program are you using ?  Online or Downloaded ?   And what are you trying to do ?   Transfer the 2017 info to 2018  ?

I was working on my 2017 taxes when my computer keys quit working.  I moved my tax file to another computer and loaded Turbo Tax 2017 on to new computer.  Copied tax folder off old computer on to thumb drive and copied tax file onto desk top.  How do I put the file into the new Turbo Tax 2017 on the new computer.  Every time I log on the program it wants to start all over and when in browse it can not find the file.  I need to get into the file to finish my 2017 taxes

It is not last years return it is a 2017 years return and the program is not picking It up.  Please set me up with someone who can help me with this.

Are you using Windows or Mac?

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).

Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.
