How do I start a second return using the Download version of the software?

I am trying to start a return for my daughter using the Deluxe version of the 2024 TurboTax software.  I don't want to overwrite my return.

Just go up to File - New Tax Return.  It will ask to save your return.  Also be careful if your name is the same as another return. Turbo Tax saves the tax returns as 2024 Smith J Form 1040 Individual Tax Return.tax2024. So if you have two or more returns for people that have the same last name and first initial the second return will overwrite the first one. So you have to be sure to first save the returns with names completely different to keep them apart. Don't use the default name given by the program. You need to go to FILE - SAVE AS and give the return a unique name you can tell apart. At least add the full first name. You don't have to use or accept the name Turbo Tax gives it. I save all my returns with different names.

I have 2025 turbotax online. Can I do more than 1 return? The blogs say the online form, u can only do 1 return.  How do i do my daughters return?

that is not the online form.

Online is only good for 1 return per account.  Don’t use your account or you will overwrite your return and it will be gone.  And you have to pay for each account separately so it might get expensive.  You can start another return in TurboTax Online by:

1. Logging out if you are in your account
2. Choose what TurboTax Online product you want to use for the second return
3. Create your account screen
4. Set up a new login for the second return
5. Start working on the new return

In the downloaded Desktop version of TurboTax.

1. In the top left corner you will see (in fairly small print)"FILE"
2. You will have an option to Save or Save As
3. I suggest Save As to clearly identify the file.  
   1. Use a descriptive name and the Tax Year in the name.
   2. Exit the tax return
4. Then go back to "FILE"
   1. Select New Tax Return
   2. Again, use Save As and describe this return
5. When you log back in, you can choose the return you want to work on.

The window I get does not have a field in the upper left to go to "File" to start a new return

@ClarannZatko   Are you using the Desktop program installed on your computer?  Are you on Windows or Mac?  For Mac you need to go way up to the Black Apple Menu Bar.

Do you have the Online version of TurboTax.  

The Online version does not have an option to start a new tax return

To start a new return Online

 Go to the TurboTax Website.

 Create an Intuit Account

1. Go to the Intuit Website page.
2. Select Create an account.
3. Enter your email address and phone number.
4. Create a password.
5. When you're ready, select Create account
