How do I prepare 1099-int form for my company when I purchased TT H&B through Costco? Did Inuit change the rules without telling anyone ahead of purchasing their product?

1099-INT and 1099-DIV have to be prepared at the affiliate site QEF (Quick Employer Forms).  That is included in the Home and Business purchase, but you have to use the QEF website, and you have to go there from inside your Home and Business program so it will recognize that you've paid.

  • Launch your Home and Business program.
  • Update if you haven't lately.
  • Once the program is open, at the home screen you have to say you want to start a "new return" so you can get to the "1099 Reporter" screen.  It's not starting a new tax return, just the 1099 Reporter.  This will open the screen to get the link to the QEF website.
  • On the home screen there is blue "Start a New Return" button.   Click that.
  • On the next screen, choose to prepare 1099s, then screen will expand to show you the option where you can choose 1099-INT.
  • When you click to go to the QEF website, a token will be sent in the URL to show that you have a paid product.

How do I prepare 1099-int form for my company when I purchased TT H&B through Costco? Did Inuit change the rules without telling anyone ahead of purchasing their product?

@momsjunkyard    Hang on a sec.  I'm rewriting part of the above and adding different screen images.   I had originally mentioned 2 methods, but I think one method will be less confusing, so I will be posting the preferred method.

You are correct and I was wrong.  For some reason, I clicked to go through TT originally but it wasn't loading so I entered the website address instead.  I apologize because I went in the wrong way, not knowing that by signing into my Intuit Account and having the Turbo Tax registered in my name was not enough for the system to recognize me as having paid for the software already.  Every year is something new and changed.  None the less, it was my error and I thank you for giving me the information to be able to file the forms.

@momsjunkyard    You're welcome.

One other thing.  You said "my company."   Are you a self-employed business/independent contractor/sole proprietor or a single-member LLC choosing to file as a "disregarded entity" on Schedule C?    If you are a corporation, partnership, multimember LLC, trust/estate, etc, that would require a different product to prepare the business tax return.

No, I'm the bookkeeper and the W2's and 1099-MISC's are always a snap with TT.  It's just the 1099-INT that seems to get confusing because of changes made each year.  I've gone in the way you suggested and, for the most part, it has worked.  It has given me a "not secure connection" screen a couple times but I've been able to get back and continue completing the form.  I only do one of these forms each year and I spend more time each year doing this one form than I do completing the W2's and 1099's.  Obviously, operator error...but still frustrating every year. Thank you again for your help!!

Oh, so you're just using the product to prepare those forms, and not for the company's tax return?

I don't know what it gave you a "not secure connection" screen, but be careful.  Don't enter info unless it's indicated as secure in your browser.

How do I prepare 1099-int form for my company when I purchased TT H&B through Costco? Did Inuit change the rules without telling anyone ahead of purchasing their product?

Yes, I do the forms for a couple of companies and I do prepare taxes for family and friends but I tell the companies to use a CPA's services for the best results.  I know I could do them with Turbo Tax but I'm not a CPA so personal tax returns are fine, but the business ones get sent to their CPA's.  I prefer to let the Pro's handle them.  Besides, not sure I'm qualified anymore to even do family taxes when I can't get one silly form entered and printed. (joking)  Have a great rest of your day and thanks again for your help!
