How do I give a 1099 to my employer because I received a 1099-NEC when I shouldn't have.

I am an insurance agent who works for an agency.  I receive a W-2 from them because our commissions are assigned to the agency.  I received 2 1099-NEC forms from 2 insurance companies. Both companies refused to issue corrected 1099-NECs.

How and what forms do I give my employer to reassign the income? How should it be entered into TurboTax? I DON'T want to wait on a 'Red Flag' letter to try and explain the messed up situation.

If you are referring you should not receive a 1099-NEC but a W-2, you can select the option under the 1099-NEC section.  Here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

  • Sign into your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • From the upper right menu, select Search and type in 1099nec and Enter
  • Select the Jump to 1099nec
  • Follow prompts
  • On screen, " Does one of these uncommon situations apply? " select "Your employer reported this extra money on a 1099-NEC but it should have been reported on a W-2"
  • Follow prompts to create Form 8919 to report it as wages.

The amount should show on line 1 as wages on your Form 1040.

If this does not resolve your issue, please write back with clarification.
