If your 2018 and 2019 e-filed returns were rejected then you need to print sign and mail the returns. The most common reason for rejection is incorrect AGI. E-filing has been permanently closed for 2018 since October of 2019; if you recently tried to e-file your 2019 return, and it was rejected for AGI you can try using zero for AGI and see if it lets you e-file. If you still cannot e-file, then it has to be printed, signed and mailed.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return. State and federal returns must be mailed in separate envelopes to separate addresses.
If you mail both 2018 and 2019--do not combine them in the same envelope.
Be advised that mailed returns are taking much longer than normal for processing, so you can expect a wait for the IRS to process your mailed returns.
The IRS can look at your 2018 or 2019 return to issue a stimulus check. If they do not have a 2018 return then you may be waiting for them to finish processing 2019 before they will be able to use it to issue your stimulus check.
If you used the non-filer site, you will not be able to e-file a 2019 return after using the non-filer site.
TurboTax has no control over your stimulus check, nor can TT track it for you or tell you when the IRS will issue it. Refer to the sites linked below:
