How do I file for previous year, 2019?

TurboTax 2019 Online is closed, so a 2019 return can no longer be e-filed.  

You'll need to purchase the 2019 TurboTax software, download and install it to your computer.  You can complete your return, then print and SIGN the return before mailing it to the IRS.  Please mail using a method that requires a signature on receipt so that you can verify that the IRS has received your return.

Don't forget about your state return if that's applicable.

For tax years 2019, 2018, or 2017

You'll need to purchase and download the TurboTax software for PC or Mac as TurboTax Online and the mobile app are only available for the current tax year.

After installing the software, open it and follow the onscreen instructions.

Prior year returns must be paper-filed, as e-filing is no longer available. We'll walk you through that process when you get to the File section in the software.

I try and I can only find software for years 2020, 2021 & 2022. I need software for year 2019. What can I do?

@Nessqui TurboTax does not support tax year 2019.

You can use the IRS website for prior tax years and download the Form 1040 for tax year 2019 and any other forms or schedules needed - https://www.irs.gov/prior-year-forms-and-instructions

A 2019 tax return can only be printed, signed, dated and mailed by you to the IRS and to your state (if a state return is required), it cannot be e-filed.

Or you can seek out a local tax professional for assistance in completing a 2019 tax return, federal and state (if your state has a personal income tax.

If you are receiving a tax refund on the 2019 tax return, it will not be paid since the 2019 return had to be filed on or before July 17, 2023 for a tax refund.

If taxes are owed on the 2019 return you should complete, file and pay the taxes owed as soon as possible since penalties and interest will continue to accrue until the taxes are paid.

@Nessqui      Sorry, You can not do 2019 and prior using Turbo Tax. They only sell the last 3 years. You might want to go to a local accountant or tax place if you have a complicated return. And it is too late to get any refunds. Even if you found the program to buy somewhere you would not be able to install 2019.

If you have a simple return you can fill out the forms by hand. Here are some basic forms…..

You need to get state forms from your state's website.

Important! Mail Federal and State in separate envelopes and mail each year in separate envelopes.
