Please follow these steps to file an extension.

On the sidebar go to:

1. Tax Tools
2. Then select Tools
3. In the four green boxes select Tax Topics
4. Type extension
5. Need More Time to File Your Return?
6. Select Start Easy Extension
7. This will give you until October to file.

Extensions can only be filed, with TurboTax, through their online form.  

I have the desktop version so I needed to login to the online account and file the extension.

No, you can complete/file an extension on the desktop version as well.  Click the "Other Tax Situations" tab at the top of your TurboTax screen.   Scroll down to "File an Extension" and "Start."
