I have TT premier desktop using Windows. The only choice it gives me is to print it.
This is what I did:
Other tax situations > File an extension > I want to file my extension now > I want to review my extension > I expect a refund > enter your 2025 tax payments > expected refund > print extension
There is no efile choice.
thanks

Yes, Extensions from the Desktop program on your computer must be printed and mailed.
Or use the online "Easy Extension".

You can still use the free online extension and efile it if you are using the Desktop program. The extension doesn't need to be in noted in your return unless you sent in a payment in which case you have to manually enter the payment.

Are you saying that i can't get to an efile screen directly from my desktop the way I tried?
No not from the Desktop program.
Is the easy extension online still supported? Everything time I try it, it goes into an infinite loop that never loads. You go through a few pages of your personal info and then the last page says you should sign up to turbotax now - like for payment - the only option is continue, but then its an infinite loop until time out. Must be a vibe coded app with ai.

This will extend the time you have to file your taxes until October 15th, 2026.
Also, you may have to do your state taxes: Do I need to file an extension for my personal state taxes?
