How do I download the one State for free with the purchase of Turbo Tax Deluxe? Why is the software asking me to pay another $45 for CA?

Are you using the desktop version of Deluxe, and it's trying to charge you $45 to download your first state program?   If so, be aware that desktop Deluxe comes in 2 versions--one that is Federal-only, and one that is a combo Federal and State.    Which version of Deluxe did you purchase?   The combo version includes a free download of the state program.   The Federal-only version of Deluxe does not include a free state download.

It can also depend on where you purchased Deluxe desktop.  If purchased directly from TurboTax, Deluxe is the combo version that includes state.   If purchased elsewhere, such as Amazon, Costco, Sams, etc., you have to be careful which version of Deluxe you are buying.
