The "01" at the end indicates that the first dependent listed on your Form 1040 is the one whose SSN is being claimed on another tax return by someone.

How would I know if it is more than one or just one

Is your "first" dependent by any chance a teenager or student who recently filed their first tax return?   This often happens with kids who file incorrectly and say on their own return that no one else can claim them.

Your remedy for filing is to claim your dependents and file by mail.  Print, sign and date your return in ink, and mail it in.  The IRS will sort out the duplicate use of a dependent's SSN.

Does the 01 mean from the top or from the bottom?  There are three children oldest is first from the top and proceeds down based on age

Look at your Form 1040.  Do you see that the dependents are listed as Dependent 1, Dependent 2, etc.????
