How do I claim stimulus package on tax return?

The only way to claim the first, second, and third stimulus payments is to file original or amended income tax returns.

The IRS is no longer sending out direct payments.

The first two payments were part of 2020 taxes. The third payment was part of the 2021 tax return.

Never filed return

If you never filed a tax return, file an original return to claim the payments. File a 2020 return for the first and second Economic Impact Payments. They will be added to your refund as a Recovery Rebate Credit.

File a 2021 return to add the Third Economic Impact to the refund on the 2021 return.

You'll have to purchase and install the 2020 and 2021 programs on a computer.

Online is no longer available for 2020 or 2021.

Go to File your 2020 taxes for TurboTax 2020 and File your 2021 taxes for TurboTax 2021. You’ll need both programs. 2020 won’t work for 2021 and vice versa.

Filed returns but never claimed stimulus

If you filed a 2020 and/or 2021 return and never claimed the stimulus, the IRS did not add the missing stimulus to your refund. File an amended return. Amending is free if you filed those years with TurboTax.
