how can I transfer my turbo tax program license to a new computer?

I purchased Turbotax premier, which allows 5 federal and 1 state.    I only needed one federal and one state.    I just purchased a new computer and successfully transferred all turbo tax related files.   As I launch the turbo tax 2024 with the same product key, which came with original purchase, it used 2nd of the 5 allowed federal and ask for $45 for the state.

Is there a way I can avoid paying the additional $45?   I do not plan on using it on the old computer.

You should be able to log into your online account and download the state program.

Are you trying to open your return?  Try this.....

After you get the program installed or reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW). Enter some basic information, then go to the state tab and download the state program. Then try to open your existing return, go to FILE - OPEN
