If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over.  Click on My Account at the top of the program screen while working on the 2016 online tax return.  Click on Clear & Start Over.

Desktop?  Did you purchase the software as a CD or Download and install the software on your personal computer?  If so, then you can just start a new tax return by clicking on File at the top left of the desktop program screen and click on New Tax Return.
Using the desktop program, there is no need or requirement to use the TurboTax online editions.  The online editions are a separate product from the desktop editions and also priced separately.

Then just sign onto your TurboTax online account and go the 2016 tax return by clicking on the large Orange button "Take me to my return".  Then clear your tax return and start over.
